Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a medical condition where spinal nerves are compressed by degenerating bone discs, causing pain as the primary symptom.  In lumbar spinal stenosis, responsible for 75% of all cases, the roots of the spinal nerve in the lower back are squeezed, resulting in feelings of weakness, numbness, and tingling.  The pain often spreads down into the buttocks and legs and patients may have trouble standing up.  A more serious type of the disorder, known as cervical spinal stenosis, causes pain in the neck resulting from the compression of the spinal cord itself.  Symptoms include whole body weakness and even paralysis.

Spinal stenosis mostly affects people in their 50s and 60s, and builds gradually over a period of several years.  Recommended treatments include exercises and activity modification for managing pain and preventing further exacerbations, anti-inflammatory medications and epidural injections for temporary pain relief and, finally, correctional surgery for severe debilitating pain.

We offer ultrasound guided epidural injections, chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture, active exercises, medication, psychotherapy, biofeedback, thoracic and/or lumbar supports, TENS/MET devices, and orthotics for those patients suffering from spinal stenosis.
